Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706
in Boston; back then it was known as the Massachusetts Bay Colony. At a
very young age, he worked as a printer and when he was seventeen,
Franklin left Boston and traveled to Philadelphia. Franklin's most
popular and enduring contributions to American culture, "Poor Richard
Almanack". This annual publication, which Franklin published from 1732
to 1757, contained, information, observations, and advice about life.
After he published another pamphlet, "The Nature and Necessity of a
Paper Currency," Franklin was able to purchase "The Pennsylvania
Gazette" newspaper from a formal boss, and was elected the official
printer of Pennsylvania. He established a lending library so others
could share his passion for
reading, and was elected Grand Master of the Pennsylvania Masons, clerk
of the state assembly and postmaster of Philadelphia.Franklin is well-known because he is one of the Founding Fathers and he came up with the system of government outlined in the United States Constitution.
